Ted Drewes
Frozen Custard
St Louis

Ted Drewes Sr. was an ace tennis player, winning the Muny Championship each year from 1926 to 1935. He started out selling frozen custard from the back of a truck before opening a stand in Florida in 1929. He returned to St Louis to open a stand on Natural Bridge in 1930. He opened a second store on South Grand in 1931. No visit to St Louis is complete without visiting the Ted Drewes location on Route 66, which opened in 1941. The treat is best eaten as a "concrete", basically a shake so thick you can turn it upside down. In the winter, Ted Drewes Jr. converts the stand into a lot selling quality Christmas trees.
