The Ralston-Purina Corporation headquarters at Chouteau and 12th was know around the world as "Checkerboard Square". The company made Chex Cereal, Purina Dog Food, Energizer Batteries and many other products. Many of those product lines have been spun off. Ralston-Purina merged with Nestle in 2001.
