Art Museum
St Louis

The Palace of Art was the only building at the 1904 World's Fair intended to be a permanent structure. It was designed by Cass Gilbert. In front of the museum atop Art Hill in Forest Park stands a statue of the city namesake, King Louis IX. It was made of plaster by Charles Niehaus for the fair and later cast in bronze. It was the symbol of the city before construction of the Gateway Arch.
