The American Inn opened about 1930, and closed in 1974. The restaurant, famous for Sunday chicken dinners, was located on the first floor of the log building. The owners lived upstairs. John and Mary Ellen Knight bought it in 1967, and Mary turned it into a day care center. The day care center closed in 2008, and the buildings are currently vacant.
