Some of the greatest baseball players of all time stayed at the Fairgrounds Hotel at Natural Bridge and Grand. Stan Musial lived here as a rookie in 1941. Huge yearly fairs were held across the street at Fairgrounds Park from 1856 to 1902. The park included a horse racing track that could hold 25,000 fans, and the city's first zoo.
