In April of 1960, the St Louis Post Dispatch reported that business at the Pin Oak had fallen by 50% within just a few days after I-44 opened. It's really sad to drive by the remnants of the Pin Oak Motel today. The house still stands, and the motel units were converted into a storage business. But the units are busted open and the contents spilled across the once beautiful grounds.
